If I say, “My foot slips”, Your mercy, O LORD, will hold me up. In the multitudes of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.
Psalm 94:18-19
Human as we are, we make mistakes. When walking on a hill and your foot slips, your initial reaction would be fear and panic. What if I fall? What if no one would be there to catch or help me?
This is the same with falling into sin and falling away from faith. Sinning is a slippery slope. Sometimes one sin can lead to another. Our emotions can be a slippery slope as well.
I could get overwhelmed sometimes and get emotional. I would overthink a lot and jump to conclusions about how people would think about me or if I was good enough. Questions like these would mostly ruin my relationships with people around me.
As I read the scripture, I can’t help but say “Yes, this is true. God did this to me! ”Because I had been into situations where I slipped and God was there to hold me, pick me up, and comfort me. When I was broken with every word that was spoken in front of me, or when challenges came when I least expected it and the people I counted on turned their backs at me, it was God and His grace that carried me. It was Him who brought me this far and gave me the courage to do what I am doing right now, that is, to testify of His goodness and mercy upon my life.
Let us call upon Him when we feel tempted or pulled away from the truth and the light. Let us call to God for support and stay focused on His word, because when we change our focus from things that are affecting us and instead focus on God (His word, prayer, and worship), we are reminded of all the Lord has done for us, all the miracles he already performed, and the things He is about to do so that we can learn to turn all our cares over to Him so that we might enjoy the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
…casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
I Peter 5:7
…and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7
So, if you are hurting, doubting, lost, and overwhelmed, call out to God and invite Him into every aspect of your lives, the pain, joy, good or bad. Know that God will always be there with open arms for the ones He loves.
