“Our God will fight for us.”
Nehemiah 4:20b
In Nehemiah 4–6, we see a story not just of rebuilding walls, but of rebuilding faith. Nehemiah and his people faced insults, threats, exhaustion, and fear while rebuilding Jerusalem’s wall. Yet, through all of it, they prayed — before, during, and after every challenge.
When the workers were discouraged, Nehemiah reminded them of who their God is:
“Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.” —Nehemiah 4:14
Sometimes, we feel like those workers. We try to rebuild our lives — fixing what’s broken, pursuing dreams, or returning to God — but problems, people, and pressure come our way. The enemy doesn’t want us to build. He’ll whisper lies, stir distractions, and send discouragement to make us stop.
But Nehemiah teaches us something powerful:
Prayer builds walls the enemy cannot break.
When we pray, we are not just talking to God — we are arming ourselves with His strength, peace, and wisdom. Every prayer you pray is like placing another brick on your wall of faith. It might feel small, but it’s building something strong.
Even when the enemy tried to deceive Nehemiah (Nehemiah 6:5–13), he did not stop praying. He asked God for strength and discernment. Because of that, Nehemiah was able to finish the wall despite all the intimidation. In the end,
“When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.” —Nehemiah 6:16
When you build your life with prayer as your foundation, even your enemies will recognize that God is with you.
Pray before you act. Before you start your day, project, or decision, pause and pray. Let God lead.
Pray during the battle. When discouragement hits, pray for strength and protection. Don’t stop building.
Pray after the victory. When your “wall” is finished — when the prayers are answered — still pray. Stay humble and thankful.
Prayer is your greatest weapon. It will make you bolder, wiser, and stronger each day. Just like Nehemiah, keep rebuilding your wall — your faith, your purpose, your life — brick by brick, prayer by prayer.
And when you feel like giving up, remember:
Our God will fight for us.
