The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Romans 8:16–17
One of the greatest truths in the Bible is that we are not just forgiven sinners—we are children of God. The Holy Spirit reminds us daily that we belong to Him. We are not abandoned, forgotten, or left to figure out life on our own. We are loved, chosen, and secured in His family.
As children of God, we are also heirs—co-heirs with Christ. That means the same love, victory, and inheritance Jesus has from the Father, we also get to share. So why should we live in fear of tomorrow? Why should we worry about the challenges we face? If our Father in heaven owns everything, cares for us deeply, and has already secured our eternity, then no problem in this life can take away our identity in Him.
This doesn’t mean life will be easy. The verse reminds us that we will also share in Christ’s sufferings. Trials, rejections, or even pain will come—but they are not the end. Just as suffering was not the end of Jesus’ story, it will not be the end of ours.
Beyond the pain, there is glory.
Beyond the struggle, there is blessing.
Beyond the cross, there is always resurrection.
