I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.
Psalm 34:4
Fear is not of God. But sometimes, fear controls us to see things negatively, as if there is no way to fix everything that troubles us. Fear is the one telling us that we're already at a dead end, that there's nowhere else to go. It seems like a wall that hinders us from seeing the way out. God has not given us the spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:17). Instead, He is the way to deliver us from all our fears. Sometimes, we tend to do things on our own, becoming too confident in our own strengths and abilities. We become independent and pretend to know it all, but we just can't. Our strength is limited; we get tired, confused, and broken, and we fear the future.
Turn to Him. Seek God with all your heart. David experienced God's miracles, but like us, he stumbled and made wrong choices as well. He still felt afraid. But instead of being drowned in fear, David instantly sought the Lord as soon as fear overcame him. He regularly sought God, repented of his sins, and God answered him. He was sought after.
This verse is still applicable for us today. His promises are still valid. The Lord has promised, on many occasions, that the man or woman who seeks the Lord will find Him if they search for Him with all their heart (Jeremiah 29:13). But we should also not forget that God sought and found us first, breathing life into us through His Spirit. For us who have been saved by grace through faith in Christ, we are able to testify with David that we also sought the Lord for the forgiveness of sin, and He graciously delivered us out of the hands of the enemy, triumphing over sin and death and redeeming our life from destruction.
I sought the Lord, and He heard and He answered
I trust in God!
2 Timothy 1:17
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Jeremiah 29:13
