God Doesn’t Call the Qualified—He Qualifies the Called

What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
Romans 6:1-2
I came across a post online that really struck me. It mentioned how many of the characters in the Bible had flaws:
Jacob was a cheater.
Jonah ran away from God.
Miriam was a gossiper.
Moses had a temper.
David was an adulterer.
Peter denied Christ.
Paul persecuted Christians.
And yet, God still called them. Why? Because God doesn’t call the qualified—He qualifies the called.
It’s such a beautiful reminder of His grace. But here’s the thing: grace doesn’t give us a license to continue living in sin.
Yes, God is merciful. Yes, His love is greater than our failures. But that doesn’t mean we stay in the same place He rescued us from. Grace is not an excuse to continue in habits or behaviors that don't glorify Him.
He already forgave you. He already died for you.
He freed you not to go back to your chains, but to walk in freedom. God is love, but that doesn’t mean we can keep repeating what He’s already told us to let go of.
Jesus didn’t die for us so we could go back to the very things He freed us from.
He died to break the chains, not to decorate them.
So no, we’re not perfect—and we don’t have to be for God to use us. But once we’ve encountered His love, there has to be transformation. There has to be repentance. There has to be growth because true love responds with obedience.
Let’s not abuse grace. Let’s honor it by choosing a life that reflects the One who gave it.
If you’ve truly encountered Jesus, let it lead you to change. Let it lead you to a life that honors Him—not perfectly, but purposefully.
