Let all that you do be done in love.
1 Corinthians 16:14
Sometimes, God will lead us to a different path, away from our comfort zone. I experienced this myself when God led me back to where I once lived and taught the children there. I never expected it to happen; never in my life have I planned to teach little kids near a slaughterhouse, under the roof of a pig pen, or sitting with them on the ground just to tell them about Jesus. All I wanted before was to go to church, sing, and then come back home. But God gave me more than I expected. He called me higher. At first, I was uncomfortable, not knowing what to do. I said “yes” to God’s calling even when I was unsure and had doubts. I felt like I was doing something I didn’t want to do.
I was in the middle of asking the Lord if this calling really is for me when He gave me this verse, and it hit me like a sword.
“Am I doing this out of responsibility and pressure or with love and compassion? "
Right there and then, I asked God to give me a heart like His. I want to feel what He felt. I want to see what He sees in them. I want to know why He called me this far and this high to reach these people. God gave me strength, patience, and perseverance to continue in the ministry, and there I learned to love God’s people. I learned to love God’s calling. It’s so fulfilling to do when you know you’re doing what you love, and I want to apply this lesson in every aspect of my life. Knowing everything has its positive side, seeing the good in people, and doing everything in love, whether on the things I planned doing or on unfamiliar things God will lead me into.
In this verse, Paul was signifying that the whole of their obedience to Christ, their observation of, and subjection to all His ordinances and commands, should spring from and be done in love to Him. That the whole of their conduct and behavior towards one another ought to be with charity, which bears all things and covers a multitude of sins.
Let all that you do be done with love means that God’s unconditional love abides in us through our relationship with Jesus Christ. God’s love becomes the indispensable force and driving motivation behind everything we do.
No matter where we are and who we are with, we are compelled by love, cultivating love, pursuing love, and demonstrating love.
