“Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.”
Mark 4:39
The Sea of Galilee in Israel is known for violent, sudden storms. Strong winds can create huge waves that threaten seafarers, like we see in the book of Mark.
Most of the time we can relate to the disciples in this passage. We worry a lot in our lives. Our common initial reactions would be fear and panic, especially when it seems like we’re facing great trouble that is too difficult to overcome. Because of that, we will feel like there’s no one else to come to our rescue or ask God’s existence and care about our situation, not knowing that He is always there and He never left our side.
How can Jesus sleep in the middle of the storm? Does He not care about His disciples? Jesus was sleeping because He knew, and He has this faith, so great, that He can rest because He knows God is in control.
Jesus went with the disciples because He cared about them. He goes with you because He cares about you.
Jesus cares about your future.
Jesus cares about your health.
Jesus cares about your finances.
Jesus cares about your relationships.
You can have that kind of rest, too. A kind of rest that enables us to stay calm in the middle of chaos, speak blessings amidst negativities, and stay hopeful that God will work things out.
Let’s ask God to increase our faith in order for us to have the confidence to remember that God has never left the boat. God is with us as we sail through the storm; we are not alone, and God’s got our back.
What storm are you facing today? Take a moment to close your eyes and imagine Jesus, unafraid of the storm, bringing everything to a calm. He is with you. Whether you have to go under it, above it, or through it, always remember that you are not alone. Jesus is with you in the boat. Jesus is with you through the storm.
