Laboring and Prospering with the Lord

Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

Psalm 127:1

Without depending on the Lord, building a home, raising a family, or making future plans is pointless. While the watchman has a duty to be on guard a true protection of the city requires the work and blessing of God. Without God as your foundation, all of your hard work will be in vain. "For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw—each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done" (1 Corinthians 3:11–13). In the end, even of our greatest accomplishments are meaningless unless the Lord is building, watching, and writing His story through all we do.

Without the Lord's establishment, no family will prosper, no building will be sound, no city will be prosperous, and no church will be united. It will fall apart and be heading toward destruction no matter how much money is spent or how talented the workers are if it is not constructed and blessed by the Lord. As Jesus declared, "I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it," the only one who can guarantee that our earthly endeavors will be successful is Him.

"For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw—each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done"

Matthew 16:18
