Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps.
Jeremiah 10:23
How often do we take a step without asking God first? We plan, decide, move—and only when things fall apart do we look up and ask, “Lord, was this Your will?” The truth is, we sometimes act like we know what’s best, like we’re the authors of our own stories. But Jeremiah 10:23 reminds us of something powerful: our lives are not our own. We weren’t created to be the writers of our path—we were made to follow the One who already knows the ending.
I’ve experienced both sides: choosing what I thought was best for me, and then choosing to surrender and follow God’s leading. And there’s a huge difference. The first often led to stress, disappointment, and confusion. The second brought peace, clarity, and blessing.
Even when God’s path didn’t make sense to me at first, I later realized how perfect it was.
His plans really are greater than mine.
We need to stop grabbing the pen from the Author of life. He doesn’t need our edits—He needs our trust. He sees the full picture while we only see a few lines.
If you’re in a season of decision or confusion, pause and pray: “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Let Him direct your steps, and you’ll walk into a story far more beautiful than anything you could’ve written on your own.
