Living Sacrifice

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭

Paul, here is describing how those of us who are in Christ should live. God has shown an indescribable mercy. Instead of death, which we clearly deserve, He gave us life and salvation. In response, we should not just go to church and sing, offer money, and then go home and go back to our sinful habits, but rather offer our lives as a living sacrifice for God’s plan and purpose.

As living sacrifices, God chose us with care, set us apart, and declared us acceptable because of our position in Christ Jesus. Therefore, we should be holy unto the Lord, different from the systems of this world. He sacrificed His life so that we may live for Him, and living for Him means being selfless; it’s more than just words. It is dying to self, giving up sinful pleasures. The holiness we bring to the altar is a decision for holiness and yielding to the work of holiness in our life. As we present our bodies as a living sacrifice, God makes our life holy by burning away impurities.

The system of this world will try to conform us with its ungodly pattern that seems to be good in the eyes, but that should be resisted. Christians must think differently. We should be transformed by the renewing of our minds, and as we are transformed on the inside, the proof is evident on the outside, as others can see what the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God is through our lives.
