More Than Just “The One”

For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality.
1 Thessalonians 4:3
When we think about “God’s will,” especially as young people, our minds often go straight to relationships. We ask questions like, “Is this the person God wants me to marry?” or “What if I miss the one?” While these are real and heartfelt concerns, God’s Word gives us a different starting point. According to 1 Thessalonians 4:3, God’s will is not first about who you date or marry—it’s about your sanctification. In other words, His will is for you to be holy, set apart, and pure.
Sanctification means becoming more like Jesus in our thoughts, actions, and desires.
It’s about choosing a lifestyle that honors God—especially in a world that constantly promotes the opposite. Purity isn’t limited to avoiding sexual sin; it’s about surrendering every part of ourselves to God: our relationships, our conversations, our media, and even our private thoughts. God's will is not a mystery you have to solve like a puzzle—it’s a path you walk daily, shaped by obedience and a heart that longs to reflect His holiness.
If you’re constantly worried about whether you’ve found “the one,” shift your focus. Instead of asking, “Is this person God’s will for me?” ask, “Am I living in God’s will right now?” When you prioritize purity, seek righteousness, and draw near to God, everything else—including relationships—begins to fall into place.
Real love flows from a pure heart, and a pure heart starts with walking closely with Jesus.
