I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me.
Psalm 101:3
Our eyes are the gates to the rest of our body. These are the portals to the soul. Whatever fascinates your eyes will eventually gain admission to the heart. So, setting wicked things before your eyes has something to do with your problem in purity.
If we are not wise enough to realize, we could definitely fall for the devil’s crafty moves by showing us just enough to intrigue us and then increasing the temptation with every look. Each piece of bait gets larger and more irresistible until we find ourselves captured by the hook and we’ve been click-baited again.
Don’t fall for the bait by aimlessly scrolling on your phone, inviting disaster, or watching wicked things on TV or the games you play, and start spending more time with God, reading His word, and being earnest in prayer. By doing these, we fill our eyes, thoughts, and hearts with the things we need in order to protect our weak spots.
If a castle only has one weak spot, one possible access point for the enemy to invade, the king’s soldiers will do all they can to defend this single entry point. We should do the same thing as well. Let us defend our only access point by protecting our eyes against the armies of lust. Nip the sin in the bud before it gets bigger.
