If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?
Jeremiah 12:5
There are moments in life when we feel utterly drained. We face trials, setbacks, and heartbreaks that wear us out. And in the middle of it, we might find ourselves crying out like Jeremiah did—asking God, “Why?” Why do the wicked seem to prosper while the faithful suffer?
But instead of giving Jeremiah a gentle, comforting answer, God replied with a challenge—a question that cuts deep and calls for growth: “If running with men tires you out, how will you run with horses?”
It’s God’s way of saying: “I’m preparing you for greater battles. What you’re going through now is only training ground for what’s ahead.”
Sometimes, what we see as unbearable seasons are actually God’s way of building endurance, spiritual muscles, and deeper faith in us. The difficulties we face today are not meant to break us—they’re meant to prepare us.
If you’re weary now, God isn’t telling you to give up. He’s telling you that there’s a reason for the struggle. You’re being equipped for more—more responsibility, more influence, more purpose. You’re not just called to walk—you’re called to run with horses.
So don’t lose heart. Don’t let temporary exhaustion make you forget your eternal purpose. You are being trained for the thickets by the Jordan—the more difficult terrain, the more intense battles, and the greater victories.
