Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12: 10
Paul changed the way people bragged by emphasizing his weaknesses in contrast to others, rather than highlighting his strengths. This strategy allowed the Corinthians to see the power of Christ in Paul's life.
Nobody takes pleasure in facing challenges and hardships, and generally speaking, none of us find joy in being persecuted or mocked by others. However, we endure it for the sake of Christ. It is for Christ's sake that we accept insults and endure persecutions, and it is through His grace that we can find contentment amidst the trials and tribulations that come our way.
Paul believes that his weaknesses are important because they make him rely on God's grace and strength. This dependence leads to good results. Believers should trust God fully in their weaknesses and hard times. When we depend on God instead of ourselves, we can have a big impact because God's power is greater than our own.
For when I am weak, then I am strong...
