A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.
Proverbs 17:17
Friendship is a blessing from God. "Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling" (1 John 2:10). As Christians, we ought to model this behavior for our friends rather than only hoping for it. Let us not be hypocrites and love only with words, but in deed and in truth (1 John 3:18). Let us show genuine love through our actions, not just plain words especially to those who are in need of a companion during difficult times.
A true friend or brother draws alongside a hurting person when that person experiences sickness or pain or financial distress or the loss of a loved one. It is easy to say, "I am praying for you," but genuine love only starts there (James 2:15–16). When a friend is there to support and comfort you during difficult times, loyalty in friendship becomes even more valuable. All genuine friendships are extremely valuable, but friendships that last for a lifetime are doubly blessed.
What a friend we have in Jesus! who laid down His life for us (1 John 3:16). As an imitator of Christ, we are instructed to do what Jesus did—to lay down one's life for our brethren. To walk with them, comfort them, and support them in truth and in action. May you also find a friend that loves you at all times, treats you like a brother, and will walk with you through life's adversities.
He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.
1 John 3:16
