The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:21
Have you ever realized how much influence your words carry? The Bible reminds us that the words we speak have the power to bring either life or death. What we declare over ourselves, our loved ones, and our situations shapes the reality we experience.
I remember a time when I faced a difficult situation. It was tempting to complain and speak negatively, but instead, I chose to declare God’s promises over my life. As I spoke words of faith, hope began to rise, and I saw God move in ways I could not have imagined. It taught me an important lesson: my words matter.
In the same way, life can feel like standing in the middle of strong waves. I recall a day at the beach when the wind was fierce, and the waves were high. It felt like the sea wanted to pull me under. There were moments when my knees felt weak, but I didn’t stop swimming. Similarly, life may throw challenges your way, but the words you speak can keep you afloat.
Even when you feel overwhelmed, speaking God’s truth can give you strength to keep going.
Negative words like gossiping or constant complaining can drain your spirit and rob you of peace. Proverbs 16:28 warns us that, "A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends." What we say not only affects us but also the people around us. Guarding your speech and choosing to speak life protects your peace and brings encouragement to others.
Your words also reflect the company you keep.
1 Corinthians 15:33 says, "Do not be misled: 'Bad company corrupts good character.'"
Surround yourself with people who uplift your spirit and speak words of faith. And if you find yourself becoming the negative voice, ask God to help you change your words to reflect His truth.
Take a moment to reflect on the words you speak daily. Are they bringing life or death? Choose to speak words of encouragement, faith, and hope. When challenges come, declare God’s promises over your life. Remember, the words you speak today shape the reality you live tomorrow.
Choose to speak life over yourself and your circumstances. Our words will align with God’s truth, and we will see His promises fulfilled in our lives.
