“The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
– Psalm 27:1
Our Saturday service starts at 4:00 a.m.—a time when the world is still asleep and the streets are wrapped in darkness. From our home, it would only take ten minutes by motorcycle, but that morning, we had no transportation. So at 3:00 a.m., my niece and I woke up, got ready, and decided to walk.
The road was far from comforting. Tall trees and old grass lined the way. Most of the streetlights were broken. Our area is known for having many dogs—both owned and stray. We weren’t afraid of ghosts or the dark; we were afraid of the dogs that might bark, chase, or bite us.
As we walked, it felt like being inside a mobile game—after passing one “level,” another unknown stretch awaited us. So we did the only thing we could do: we prayed. We held hands. I played a worship song on repeat. Step by step, we entrusted the road to God.
Then we saw them—dogs. More than we imagined. Stray dogs along the road, dogs chained outside houses. They saw us clearly. And yet, something incredible happened.
They were quiet.
Very quiet.
It felt as if someone was closing their mouths.
One dog barked at us from afar, but when we came closer, it suddenly ran away—as if it saw Someone with us. The others only watched. No barking. No chasing. No harm. Until finally, we reached the venue safely.
In that moment, I was reminded of Daniel in the lion’s den. The lions were real. The danger was real. But so was God’s power to shut their mouths.
That early morning walk became a living reminder: when we have God, we have everything. We have His protection. We have His presence. We have angels surrounding us—before us, behind us, on our left and on our right.
This experience taught me that when God calls us to go somewhere, obedience does not come alone—His covering goes with it. We may not always feel brave, but we are never unguarded.
The road may be dark. The fear may be real. But the Lord is our strength.
Of whom shall we be afraid?
Is there a place God is calling you to go—something that scares you, stretches you, or feels unsafe? Remember this: obedience invites protection. When God leads, He also guards.
